Your updates really do make my day, Tao - reminds me of the right way to live..

The colours on the roosters feathers in the photo you posted are incredible xx

Deeply excited for Reasons to Live. I watched that vimeo IV again of you and Alan Rossi earlier. So very keen on what's next from him too. Have a great day, hello from Friday (Australia x).

Before you mentioned there being less ants, I was already thinking about how much they looked like anteaters!

I love this. Thank you.

The snout is crazy

I love how you are discovering the systems in place like pig healing, pig eating ants and snails, peeing and popping ya fertilizer to make plants grow.

How you observe their behavior with Nini and with yourself. Nature seems to teach if you’re open to her wisdom. I am happy for you and your extended four legged family. Peace

Thank you. Agree about nature.

"I wrote about her in an essay titled “Hawaiian Fauna” that is going to be in my next book, a memoir titled Reasons to Live." <3

How lovely that you care for an animal that most people would consider ugly and only good for making bacon.

Will you ever let the others inside?

Tao Lin's avatar

Not yet. I want to let the calm sow inside some day maybe. She climbs the four stairs leading into the house.

Rat lungworm is a real issue and possibly why snailphilia and snail consumption is geographically bound. Pigs and squirrels are very resistant to a lot of things humans aren't. For example squirrels are immune to snake venom and poison mushroom. Do you see squirrels in Hawaii?

Tao Lin's avatar

I haven’t seen squirrels here. There are mongoose though which look like squirrels but seem to stay on the ground.

I would like to live somewhere that has wild pigs and squirrels mixed together. I was also told that Australia has no squirrels so I'm not to move there.

This makes me want to move to Hawaii so bad

Can get feral pigs in most places.

I live in a studio apt in the city :-/

I notice a paperback titled ‘Hollywood vs The Aliens’. Is it any good? I was once bitten by a snake in a field of long grass. It, too, startled me. I’d picked it up so it was entirely my fault. I could feel its fangs in the palm of my hand as I tried to shake it away. Fortunately for me, the snake wasn’t venomous but it felt strange having it embedded in my hand.

Tao Lin's avatar

I’ve read some of it. It does seem good.

Were you scared or concerned when the feral pig possibly mistook you for salami and bit you?

(Thank you for the update on your pigs. Best of luck to the rooster wherever he may be)

Tao Lin's avatar

It scared me a little, yes. But I wasn't in danger, so I didn't stay scared. I was startled, and I backed away, saying, "Don't bite me!"

Are you on Kauai? This feels like Kauai.

Tao Lin's avatar

Big Island.

Ah, feral pigs and roosters are common across the whole chain apparently.
